Emeritus Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Warner Bruce Kover is an American citizen who influenced several generations of organic chemists in Brazil. Graduated from Yale University in 1959, Professor Kover obtained his PhD degree at the California Institute of Technology in 1964 under the guidance of the well-known Donald John Roberts. After a post-doctoral position in the University of Pittsburgh, Kover moved to Brazil and is on the faculty of the Chemistry Institute of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. With his inspiring and high-level lectures and conversations about organic and physical-organic chemistry, Professor Kover not only inspired me to pursue academic career, but also many others from different generations of chemists. I believe anyone who had the privilege to attend his classes will never forget him (as well as of his tremendous knowledge in organic chemistry).
